Introduction: The term gossypiboma is used to describe surgical sponges or gases that remain in the patient's body after a surgery. The present study reports a case of a large muliloculated cyst following the retention of a long gauze in an emergency cesarean section.
Case Presentation: The patient is a 37-year-old woman with 5th abdomen with 4 previous natural births at the gestational age of 38-2 based on the menstrual date and 39+3 based on the 20-week ultrasound. Initial examination was 3-4 cm with 70% effacement. The patient was prepared for caesarean section after rupture of the water sac. The patient's abdomen was opened through a transverse incision on the abdomen and uterus. The meconium-stained baby was delivered with an Apgar score of 9.10 and the patient was discharged after 48 hours without any complication. About 5 months later, the patient referred for right flank pain, during which time he did not complain of fever or any other specific problem other than back pain, and a request was made for a urine test and ultrasound of the kidney and abdomen, and the patient's urine test was normal, but In the ultrasound, a large muliloculated cyst was reported on the right side of the pelvis and slightly above it.
Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, failure to prevent the occurrence of Gossypiboma is one of the most important cases that causes serious complications such as large cysts in patients.
