Introduction: According to high rate of cesarean section and salient role of obstetricians and midwives as trustworthy persons for pregnant women in choosing mode of delivery, this study was done to investigate obstetrics team’s attitudes about delivery mode preference in Alborz clinics and hospitals.
Methods: This analytical descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted on 251 gynecologists and midwives who work in Alborz province maternity clinics and hospitals in year 2011. Available sampling method was selected. They completed a self-structured questionnaire containing demographic information, their preferred to delivery mode and their attitudes about delivery mode preference. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 18 and Chi-square, Fisher exact test and logistic regression. P value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Result: 130 cases had a history of previous delivery (27% normal vaginal delivery and 73% cesarean section). 119 cases (47.2%) claimed that they prefer elective cesarean if they will have delivery. There was a significant difference between delivery mode preference between gynecologists and midwives (p=0.005); 109 midwives (43.9%) and 29 gynecologists (72.4%) trend to cesarean delivery for their own.
Conclusion: Since a significant number of obstetrics team preferred cesarean delivery method, their views should be reconsidered to decrease rate of cesarean delivery.
