Background: Reproduction is one of the key elements of demographic change. Since women are not equally able to make independent decisions regarding reproduction, measuring women’s reproductive autonomy is crucial in reproductive planning.
Methods: This cross‑sectional psychometric study was conducted on married women aged 15–45 years living in Tehran. A total of 168 married women referring to health clinics in Tehran were selected using a cluster random sampling method. Content validity was assessed using the Content Validity Index. Internal consistency and test–retest reliability were evaluated using Cronbach’s alpha and Pearson correlation coefficient, respectively. Construct validity was examined by confirmatory factor analysis, and concurrent validity was assessed through correlations between the subscales of the Women’s Reproductive Autonomy Questionnaire and Enrich Marital Satisfaction and Bruce and Scott Decision‑Making scales.
Results: Concurrent validity showed strong correlations between the subscale scores of the Women’s Reproductive Autonomy Questionnaire and the marital satisfaction and decision‑making questionnaires. The test–retest correlation coefficients for the decision‑making, freedom from coercion, and communication subscales were 0.784, 0.724, and 0.877, respectively. Cronbach’s alpha for the total scale was 0.737. conclusion: The Women’s Reproductive Autonomy Questionnaire demonstrated acceptable face, content, and concurrent validity, as well as satisfactory internal consistency and test–retest reliability.
