Introduction: Several mechanisms are involved in the effect of obesity on the occurrence of breast cancer as well as its effect on cancer mortality. Since there are contradictory results in this field, its effectiveness is still debated. Therefore, the present study was conducted with aim to determine the relationship between obesity and the risk of breast cancer in patients referred to the educational and medical centers in Gorgan. Methods: In this case-control study, 140 qualified people were enrolled in two groups with breast cancer (n=70) and those without breast cancer (n=70). Height, weight and body mass index of two groups were measured before the surgery. Demographic information and histological results were collected by a checklist and then analyzed with SPSS software (version 16) and chi-square test and One-way ANOVA. P<0.05 was considered significant.

Also, the mean body mass index of patients with and without breast cancer was 28.68±4.27 and 27.19 ± 3.84 kg/m2 (P=0.032). The incidence of hypertension (P=0.001) and hyperlipidemia (P=0.004) was more common in patients with breast cancer.
