Introduction: Hypothyroidism is widely common in pregnant women. Considering the complications during surgery in patients with hypothyroidism and that spinal anesthesia is a more suitable option for pregnant women with hypothyroidism,
Method: In this case-control study, 83 patients aged 18 to 42 were included in two hypothyroid (42) and control (41) groups. Patients who referred for cesarean section in the operating room of Motahari hospital in Jahrom city were included in the study. The amount of headache, Shivering, nausea and vomiting, pain and back pain at times; 15, 30, 45 and 60 minutes were measured and recorded during the operation and at the time of entry and exit from recovery.
Result:. In 15 minutes after the operation and at the time of recovery, the frequency of shivering in patients in the control group was significantly lower than in the hypothyroid group (p<0.05). In the 30 minutes after the operation, the frequency of nausea and vomiting in patients in the control group was significantly higher than in the hypothyroid group (p<0.05). At the time of entering recovery, the frequency of nausea and vomiting in patients in the control group was significantly lower than hypothyroidism (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, the use of spinal anesthesia in pregnant mothers with hypothyroidism has been associated with an increase in the incidence of shivering and nausea and vomiting in comparison to the control group only in some minutes of the study, .
