Introduction: Infertility is one of the major global health challenges that has extensive physical, psychological, and social dimensions. In Iran, cultural and social pressures on infertile women increase the complexity of this issue. In vitro fertilization is one of the most successful infertility treatment strategies, but its acceptance is influenced by various factors. This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting the willingness of infertile women to undergo in vitro fertilization using the health belief model.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted using a survey method on 206 infertile women referring to infertility treatment centers in Qom. Sampling was done by convenient random sampling and data collection was done with a researcher-made questionnaire based on the health belief model, the validity and reliability of which were confirmed. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression.
Results: The findings showed that self-efficacy and perceived benefits had a positive and significant effect on the willingness to undergo IVF, while perceived barriers had a negative and significant effect. Perceived sensitivity and severity did not show a significant effect.
Discussion and Conclusion: Strengthening self-efficacy, increasing awareness of the benefits of IVF, and reducing economic and social barriers through educational and supportive interventions can improve the acceptance of this treatment method. Policymakers should facilitate the infertility treatment process by providing financial facilities and designing psychological counseling programs.
