Evaluation of Women's Sexual Performance during First Pregnancy

Abstract

Introduction: Pregnancy accompanies with physical and psychological alternation during woman's life. The aim of this study was to determine the changes in women’s sexual performance during first pregnancy.
Methods: This descriptive-analytical and longitudinal study was conducted on 143 women referred to Medical & Educational Institute of Rasht for usual pregnancy cares in 2011. Sampling method was available. Tools used in this study include the examination and interview forms, personal information and pregnancy forms, Arizona Sexual Experience Questionnaire (ASEX). The questionnaire was filled three times during three trimesters (first, second and third). Data was collected and analyzed by statistical software SPSS (version 16), one way ANOVA, Post hoc, chi square and Spearman correlation. P less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: 48.25 percent of the samples in the first trimester, 26.57 percent in the second trimester and 72.02 percent in the third trimester showed sexual dysfunction. In comparison to other trimester the most sexual dysfunction was seen in the third trimester (P<0.05). The most common disorder in all trimester was decreased libido (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Impaired sexual performance in pregnant women was seen more common during pregnancy.
