Effect of vitagnus on Premenstrual syndrome

Abstract

Introduction: Premenstrual syndrome is the most common symptoms in women. With regard to periodic and recurrent existence of physical and psychological symptoms of premenstrual syndrome and its effects on educational performance, social and family relationships, this study was performed with the aim to evaluate the effect of vitagnus on premenstrual syndrome.
Methods: This experimental double-blind study was performed on 72 female students with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) who were resident in dormitory of Ahvaz Shahid Chamran University in 2014. The subjects were randomly divided in two case and control groups with 36 in each group. Case group received vitagnus oral drop as 40 drops daily for three menstrual cycles and control group received placebo. Data was collected by interview and its tools included the questionnaire and menstruation daily calendar and symptoms scoring. Data was analyzed by SPSS software (version 12), Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, relative and absolute frequency) and independent t and Chi-square test. PResults: mean scoring of total physical symptoms of premenstrual syndrome was significantly different between two groups only during second and third treatment cycles (P<0.001). Also, mean scoring of total psychological symptoms of premenstrual syndrome was significantly different between two groups only during second and third treatment cycles (P<0.05). Mean of premenstrual syndrome duration was significantly different between two groups during second and third treatment cycles (P<0.01).
Conclusion: Using of Vitagnus plant more than one menstrual cycle is effective on decreasing the symptoms and duration of premenstrual syndrome.
