Report of a rare case of ovarian adenosarcoma in a 50-year-old woman

Abstract

Introduction: Ovarian adenosarcoma is a rare tumor that consists of two glandular and stromal components and mainly occurs in middle-aged women.It occurs unilaterally with abdominal pain and its diagnosis is based on histological findings. Ovarian adenosarcoma is rarer than the uterine type and has a poorier prognosis. In this study, a 50-year-old woman diagnosed with ovarian adenosarcoma was reported.

Case presentation: 50-year-old woman, with a history of 4 successful pregnancies, who visited the women's clinic with a history of abdominal pain since 5 months ago. The patient's clinical examinations and tests were normal, and in the ultrasound sonography performed, there was a solid and heterogeneous mass measuring 9x16 cm in the right ovary, and after surgery and pathology evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with ovarian adenosarcoma.

Conclusion: Ovarian adenosarcoma should be considered as a differential diagnosis in any middle-aged patient with a solid mass in the ovary and abdominal pain
