Abstract

Introduction: An important aspect of family life is marital satisfaction which is necessary for family establishment and children nurturing. The purpose of the present study was to determine the marital satisfaction rate and its predictors among women of reproductive age in Tabriz, Iran.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 532 married women referred to health care centers of Tabriz, Iran in 2013. The two-stage cluster sampling method was used. Data were collected by socio-demographic, women sexual function (FSFI) and marital satisfaction (ENRICH) questionnaires. General linear model was used to determine marital satisfaction predictors. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 13), and the frequency and percentage tests, mean, standard deviation and Pearson correlation tests. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: The mean score ofmarital satisfaction was 114.6±29.5 from range of 0-188. The highest and lowest scores were related to marital and sexual satisfaction, respectively. There was a significant positive correlation between sexual function with marital satisfaction total score (r=0.43) and all its sub ranges (r=0.17-0.46). Variabls such as, sexual function, spouse education, behavioral characteristics of spouse, satisfaction level of spouse, the kind of spouse choice and prior history of depression were all marital satisfaction predictors and they could predict 47.5% of marital satisfaction variance.
Conclusion: Sexual function is an important influencing factor in marital satisfaction. So recognizing and curing sexual disfunction may increase the marital satisfaction and help to keep families safe and have a healthy society.
