[English]

Introduction: Decreasing estrogen levels during menopause cause changes in the tissues of the reproductive system. Sexual dysfunction is a common problem in menopausal women. This study was conducted with aim to investigate the effect of Persicaria hydropiper vaginal cream on sexual function in menopausal women.
Methods: This double-blind clinical trial study was conducted in 2024 on 111 postmenopausal women aged 45-65 years in Ahvaz city. Subjects were divided into three groups: Persicaria hydropiper vaginal cream based on coconut and sesame oil, placebo, and conjugated estrogen, and were treated for 12 weeks. Visits were made at weeks 8, 12, and 4 after the end of treatment. Female Sexual Function Index was used to collect data. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 25) and Shapiro-Wilk test, chi-square, one-way analysis of variance, and repeated-measures analysis of variance. P < 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: After treatment, the women sexual function score in the Persicaria hydropiper group significantly increased compared to the placebo group (P<0.0001), but no statistically significant difference was observed compared to the conjugated estrogen group (P>0.05).
Conclusion: Persicaria hydropiper vaginal cream is as effective as standard treatment in improving sexual function and its dimensions in menopausal women. Therefore, it can be considered as a non-hormonal alternative treatment for improving the aforementioned disorder.
