uction: Healthy sexual function is one of the most important confounding factors in a woman’s sense of well-being and quality of life. Various factors are involved in establishing a good sex. In recent years, the problem of obesity and impact of body mass index on sexual function in women has been considered. This study investigated the relationship between body mass index and female sexual function.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 330 women aged 15-45 years between May and September 2013 in Ahvaz, Iran. Cluster randomized sampling method was used. Data were collected using demographic questionnaire and the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS software (version 19), Kolmogorov–Smirnov, Chi-Square, ANOVA and regression tests. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: The mean of total FSFI score was 26.60±4.45. The mean of body mass index was 26.41±4.58 kg/m2. The mean of FSFI scores were 26.38 ±5.51 in normal body mass index group, 26.76±3.49 in overweight women and 26.72±3.47 in obese women. No significant difference was found in BMI groups regarding to FSFI scores (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Overweight and obesity has no significant relationship with Sexual function in women, but definitive conclusion in this issue requires further studies.
