Introduction: Return physiological process of childbirth instead of the medical approach can lead mothers to have satisfaction from the birth process. The aim of this study was comparing physiologic and routine method of delivery in mother’s satisfaction level.
Methods: This descriptive comparative study was conducted on 340 mothers who were divided into two groups of physiologic and routine method of delivery in Ayatollah Mosavai hospital, Zanjan, Iran in 2012. Convenience sampling was used for routine method of delivery group and census was done for physiologic group. Data were collected using a questionnaire included 3 section (demographic and midwifery characteristics, Mackey Childbirth Satisfaction Rating Scale and satisfaction of place of delivery) which were completed by interviewing 24 hours after delivery. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 18), chi-square, independent t-test and Mann Whitney tests. P value less than 0.05 was considered significant.
Results: Mothers age, gestational age and parity were matched in both groups. Level of satisfaction about place of delivery and childbirth experience was high. Nevertheless, mothers’ satisfaction from place of delivery (p<0.0001) and childbirth experience (p=0.001) were significantly higher in physiologic delivery group.
Conclusion: Physiologic delivery leads mothers to have a satisfactory experience of childbirth by offering set of services, including: supportive proceedings, emphasize on mother’s needs and avoidance from routine and unnecessary procedures.
