Introduction: Lack of awareness of lifestyle and care of patients after surgery and lack of access this information increase the risk of patient complaints. This study was done to identify information needs related to health and willingness to access this information among women who had undergone surgery.
Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 150 women who had undergone surgery in obstetrics and gynecology department in hospitals of Semnan, Iran, 2012-2013. Data collection tool was a researcher made questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 16, descriptive statistics and chi-square tests.
Result: 74 women (49.3%) reported knowledge about the beneficial and harmful activities after surgery as the first priority of their information needs. In the field of better care, 111 women (74%) reported knowledge about drug side effects as the first priority of their information needs. In the context of how to access the information, 100 women (66.65%) tended to access the information via manual.
Conclusions: Most of patients needed various information for better care for themselves and most of them preferred to access this information before surgery from their doctors via manual.
