Abstract:
• Purpose: Prolactin is a hormone involved in the production of milk in a woman's breast and is essential in different aspects of reproduction. Hyperprolactinemia is a medical condition in which excess prolactin is produced in the blood.common Symptoms of Hyperprolactinemia are menstrual disorders, infertility, vaginal dryness, decreased libido and breast milk production even when not nursing or pregnant.
• In the traditional medicine, leech therapy is used to treatment of many blood disorders and hormonal diseases. In this article, a case of using leech therapy in the treatment of hyperprolactinemia is reported.
• Patient's description: A 40-year-old woman had referred to the traditional medicine clinic with a complaint of chronic mastitis and swollen lumps in both breasts. In the investigations, it was found that she had resistant hyperprolactinemia for a long time and this resistance is characterized by failure to achieve normoprolactinemia.
• Intervention: In order to reduce prolactin, two leeches were placed in the palate
• of the patient's mouth in one session for one hour ,under the direct control of the doctor.
• Conclusion: The results of this leech therapy showed that This process can reduce the level of prolactin and after 5 years of this action, the hormone level has remained normal
