[English]

The pain of natural childbirth is the most painful ailment that human experience. Fear of labor pain is an important factor in the desire and urges of women for elective cesarean section. Also, Hyoscine is an anticholinergic, antispasmodic, analgesic and soothing agent. This study was performed with aim to evaluate the effect of hyoscine- n -butyl bromide on labor pain in nulliparous women, so that the results can be applied as a method to reduce labor and to encourage women for vaginal delivery.
Methods: This double blind clinical trial study was performed on 110 nulliparous referred to Ali Ebne Abitaleb hospital of Zahedan for delivery in 2013. The case group received 20 mg hyocsine to 1cc and the control group received 1 cc normal saline in similar syringes with preset codes as single dose and IV at the beginning of the active phase of labor. During pacifically hours after administration of drug and placebo, the intensity of pain was determined and recorded. Data was analyzed using statistical SPSS software (version 19), t-test and Chi-square. PResults: The intensity of pain was less in case group than the control group, but the difference was not significant (P=0.456).
Conclusion: It seems that hyoscine cannot significantly affect the smooth muscle of the uterus and cannot be used as an effective drug to reduce labor pain, but slightly reduces labor pain.
